Myths and FAQs:
Can you be controlled in hypnosis?
No, stage hypnosis and movies have created the illusion that you lose control in hypnosis and the hypnotist can make you say or do things you normally would not. In fact, while hypnotized, you are merely in a state of relaxation and heightened attention. You are always in control and are able to withdraw from the hypnotic state at any time.
Do you lose consciousness during hypnosis?
No, the hypnotic state heightens one’s senses, so a client is fully aware of what is happening around them at all times.
Will I get stuck in hypnosis?
No one can get “stuck” in the hypnotic state. Hypnosis is a completely natural and safe state of mind. Everyone has experienced being in hypnosis during their lifetime. You have been hypnotized while being completely immersed in a movie or driving your normal route home and not remembering the drive.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, while some are more suggestible to hypnosis, anyone can be hypnotized. During a hypnotherapy session, the level of relaxation depends on how willing and motivated the individual is. The more accepting one is to suggestibility, the more immensely one will benefit from hypnotherapy.
